Nourish in Love
No child can learn, grow, or dream on an empty stomach. Uganda is facing a silent nutrition crisis — and the children Hofai serves feel it most. We are here to change that, one meal at a time.

The Scale of Uganda's Hunger Crisis
Uganda ranks 87th out of 127 countries on the 2025 Global Hunger Index — classified as "serious." Despite the country producing food, millions of children go without adequate nutrition every single day.
Hunger Destroys Education
In Uganda's government schools, children receive no lunch. A hungry child cannot concentrate, cannot learn, and eventually stops attending altogether. Hunger and dropout rates are directly connected.
What Hunger Does to a Child's Brain
Iron deficiency anaemia — affecting 53% of Uganda's young children — directly impairs cognitive development. A child who is anaemic struggles to focus, remember, and learn. These effects can be permanent if not addressed early. When we feed a child, we are not just filling a stomach — we are protecting a future.
Why Children Stop Going to School
Uganda has the highest school dropout rate in East Africa at 59%. Hunger is one of the leading causes. Children walk long distances to school with nothing to eat. By midday their bodies are shutting down. When Hofai provides a daily meal, attendance rises, concentration improves, and children stay in school longer.
Malnutrition and Malaria — A Deadly Combination
Uganda has the 3rd highest malaria burden in the world, with over 16 million cases recorded in 2023 — most of them children under five. A malnourished child's immune system cannot fight malaria effectively. And malaria in turn destroys appetite and causes further malnutrition. It is a cycle that kills.
For less than $1 a day, Hofai Ministries can provide a child with a nutritious, balanced meal — breaking the hunger-malaria cycle and giving them the strength to learn, grow, and thrive.
