Stitching Together a New Future

When you empower a woman, you strengthen a family. Uganda's women carry an enormous burden — and most do it alone. Hofai is here to change that.

Uganda's Women: Invisible Labour, Invisible Poverty

Uganda's women do the majority of the country's work — farming, raising children, running households. Yet they own very little, earn less, and are the first to suffer when poverty strikes. Without skills or income, they cannot protect their children.

Child Marriage Traps Generations

When a girl is married at 15 or 16, her education ends. The adolescent birth rate in Uganda stands at 111.4 per 1,000 women aged 15–19 — one of the highest in the world. She enters motherhood without skills, without income, and without options. Her daughters are then more likely to face the same fate. Hofai breaks this cycle by giving mothers skills, dignity, and economic independence — so their daughters can dream differently.

Empowering Women Changes Everything

The World Bank found that if women's earnings in Uganda matched men's, Uganda's national wealth would increase by 11.8% — equivalent to $1,619 per capita. And when a woman earns income, she reinvests 90% of it into her family — food, school fees, healthcare. Empowering one woman through Hofai's Sew in Love program does not just change her life. It changes her children's lives, and her community's future.

The Women Behind the Numbers

These are not statistics — they are real women, each with a story of courage and resilience. Hofai meets them where they are and walks with them forward.

Young Mothers

Women restarting their lives after early pregnancy, often abandoned, with a child to feed and no income. Hofai gives them a trade, a community, and a reason to look forward.

Solo Providers

Mothers raising families entirely alone — without land, without savings, and without reliable support. A sewing machine and the skills to use it changes everything for a family like this.

Island Artisans

Women in remote and isolated communities with limited access to formal employment. Hofai brings training directly to them, building economic activity where it is needed most.

School Dropouts

Young women who left school due to poverty, pregnancy, or family pressure. They did not choose to stop dreaming — circumstances did. Hofai gives them a second chance through vocational training.

How Sew in Love Works

Our tailoring program is not just a sewing class — it is an economic engine. Here is how it transforms lives from the inside out.

Professional Training

Women learn to design, cut, and sew market-ready garments under skilled instruction. The skills they gain are permanent — a portable trade no one can take from them.

Clothing Hofai Children

Graduates sew the uniforms and clothing worn by children in Hofai's care — creating an economic link that keeps income circulating within the community itself.

Launching Businesses

Women go on to start their own tailoring businesses, earning independent income, paying school fees for their children, and becoming pillars of their communities.

Restored Dignity

Beyond income, women gain a supportive community of peers, mentors, and faith. They rediscover their worth, their voice, and their God-given purpose.
